Society of St. Vincent de Paul

In 1833, a young student, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, together with his friends from Sorbonne University in Paris put their faith in Christ into action and started serving their Neighbours in Need (NINs). They went in teams to help those in need, visiting their homes, hospitals, asylums and on the street. They adopted Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) a French priest known for his compassion for the poor, as their patron.

The Society started with humble beginnings but became an international organization found in 130 countries with approximately one million volunteer members.

Canadian Conference

In Canada, Dr. Joseph Painchaud started the first Canadian Conference in 1846 in Quebec. In 1850 George Manly Muir founded the first Ontario Conference at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto.

Annunciation Conference

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Annunciation Conference became a registered charity in February 1987. Since then, we have actively served the NINs in our parish boundaries. In December 2023 due to a decline in membership, we merged with Precious Blood Conference to continue our work. We need new members to assist in this mission.

Are you looking for a meaningful form of service? We make home visits to those in need of food, clothes or furniture. We are called by faith to serve our community and believe we have a responsibility to turn our concern into action. Membership in the Society requires selfless commitment, the humility to serve the poor without judgement, a strong trust in God and faith that the work of the Society will help improve the lives of our NINs. Please call 647-499-5594 for more details.

As we continue serving the NINs from our parish with the help of Precious Blood Conference, we also ask that you give generously to help our work – envelopes are attached to the Poor Boxes at the entrances of the Church – please include your name and address for tax receipts for donations over $10. Any cheques should be made out to Society of Saint Vincent de Paul – Precious Blood.
